Mother Nature plays an important role in our daily lives. Unfortunately she is literally running on fumes. At the same time, we need to feed the hungry, house the destitute, clothe the poor; or in fewer words, to ensure an adequate quality of life for the billions on earth. Among the many steps towards this would be the education of children.
Some 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide yearly. These bags need 300 years to break down into tiny toxic
particles. These, in turn, damage the
soil and water ways. Less than 1% of plastic bags are recycled. It costs less to make a new bag then to recycle and old one. Without a monetary incentive, many bags are
left to flow into our rivers and eventually to the sea.
Apart from the ubiquitous plastic bag, many everyday items are made from plastic, spawning a myriad of plastic types;
thick, thin, corrugated and in a cornucopia of colours.
With a little resourcefulness, one of our projects is able to create flowers no less beautiful than those Mother Nature made. The items needed are easily found and the technique in making these flowers,
simple. In all, a cheap, fun activity.
